Shower Heads and Faucets Need TIS for Water Saving — What Many Importers Miss
Shower heads and faucets for sanitary ware have a mandatory environmental TIS standard on water saving. Importers should check the product type and water flow rate before placing a production order.
When people think of TIS (มอก.), they usually think of safety or durability first. But shower heads and faucets have another mandatory standard that many importers overlook: an environmental one, about saving water.
If you are planning to import shower heads or faucets for sale in Thailand, this article explains what to check before you order your first lot.
Do imported shower heads and faucets need TIS?
Two mandatory standards apply directly to this product group:
- TIS 2066-2552 for shower heads
- TIS 2067-2552 for faucets used with sanitary ware
Both focus only on the environmental side, which is water saving. If your product falls under either one, you need a TIS license before importing it for sale.

Which products do the water-saving standards cover?
Each standard splits products into sub-types and mainly limits how much water flows out. Compare them with your product:
| Standard | Product type | What is controlled (summary) |
|---|---|---|
| TIS 2066-2552 | Hand showers (flexible hose) | Flow no more than 8.0 litres per minute |
| TIS 2066-2552 | Fixed shower heads | Flow no more than 9.0 litres per minute |
| TIS 2067-2552 | Sink faucets | Flow no more than 6.0 litres per minute |
| TIS 2067-2552 | Basin faucets | Flow no more than 6.0 litres per minute |
| TIS 2067-2552 | Automatic shut-off basin faucets | No more than 0.60 litres per use |
Besides the maximum flow, the standards also set a minimum flow and conditions for the water pressure used in testing and in use. These figures are fairly detailed, so have an expert compare them with your product's actual data.
What if my product doesn't match any type in the table?
Based on the information we have, the standards define their scope but do not list exempt products. A product that doesn't seem to match a type in the table does not automatically skip licensing. It may fall under another standard or another agency. These cases need to be checked one by one. Send us your product details.
Business risks of importing without a TIS license
If your shower heads or faucets fall under a mandatory standard but you have no license yet, your business may face:
- Goods that cannot clear customs
- Storage fees while you wait
- Costs to ship the goods back
- Lost time and a delayed sales launch
The bigger the lot, the bigger the impact. Checking before you place a production order costs far less than fixing it later.
How should importers prepare before ordering?
You don't need to know standards terminology first. Just tell us what the product is. Information that helps us assess it faster includes:
- Product type: hand shower, fixed shower head, sink faucet, basin faucet or automatic shut-off faucet
- Water flow rate as stated by the factory
- Water pressure the product is rated for
The technical documents or test results you need from an overseas factory depend on the product's type and characteristics, so they have to be checked case by case. See more about documents in our FAQ.
Share whatever you have — incomplete information is fine. If you'd like to do a quick check yourself first, use the online TIS check.
